Congratulations to Mr. Corey Isaacs, 7th grade ELA teacher, at Pimlico Elementary / Middle School, who is the 2025 recipient of the Brenda Kahn Memorial Award for Educational Excellence.

This annual award recognizes excellent teaching at Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) schools. Nominated by BCP principals, potential awardees must demonstrate the qualities exemplified by the late Brenda Kahn, a BCP coach who had an extensive career with Baltimore City Public Schools and passed away in 2019.

Ms. Kahn’s qualities in the classroom and across the BCP network included:

  • Academic expertise and excellence
  • Integrity
  • Perseverance
  • Collegiality
  • High-quality instructional skills

“Brenda was a particularly effective teacher, then coach, and we created this award to honor a teacher who exemplifies her level of dedication, preparedness, success, and joy in teaching,” says Laura Doherty, BCP President and CEO at the 2025 Leading Minds professional development event on February 13th when the award winner was announced. The Kahn Award winner receives $1,000 for their school.

Mr. Isaacs has made a tremendous difference at Pimlico upon arriving in 2020 to teach English Language Arts for 7th Grade. Since then, his students’ performance increased from 0% passing the MCAP to 27% passing the MCAP. His student growth was in the 69 percentile (very well above the average of 50) for Maryland.

Mr. Isaacs is one of the most innovative teachers that I have met. He takes the time to know the students, analyze the data and come up with detailed plans to reach every student. His ability to build capacity in students is a gift that has built confidence in our scholars and is evident in their academic growth.

Nneka Warren

Principal, Pimilco Elementary / Middle School

Mr. Isaacs is passionate about reading and writing, which he shares with his students. A cum laude graduate of Goucher College in 2016, Mr. Isaacs earned a B.A. in Philosophy with a Creative Writing minor. He was editor and contributor for Goucher’s Preface Literary Magazine. In 2016, he was also a recipient of the Kratz Center for Creative Writing Fellowship. Mr. Isaacs has a MFA from George Mason University.

Congratulations Mr. Isaacs!
