May was all about Govans Elementary School pride – and a pride of lions!

BroadwayIn May, Dragons After Dismissal, Govans’ afterschool program, and the Govans Drama Club traveled to New York City to see The Lion King. Teachers, staff, and parent chaperones took 34 excited students to the Big Apple for an unforgettable experience at a Broadway show and dining in the theater district.

Getting ready for the GES performance

On May 24 and 25, the talented Dragons performed The Lion King at Govans for two packed shows in front of the proud Govans community. The show included an art exhibit of lion-themed artwork, which was auctioned to raise money for the afterschool program. Artists included GES art teacher Mr. Sferlazza and “The Pride of Africa” print by artist Ruane Manning, donated by Mrs. Jennings’ father.

Well done, Dragons! Hakuna Matata!
