The summer months are a slower pace for many Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) students, teachers, and staff. But for the BCP school facilities, June, July, and August is when activity ramps up to make improvements to the facilities.

Some projects are smaller, while others, such as Hampstead Hill Academy’s extensive addition and renovation project that will add a new gym, classroom, and bathrooms, is extensive.

Here’s a recap of the summer facilities upgrades across the BCP network of neighborhood charter conversion schools:

At City Springs Elementary / Middle School, most of the existing lights are being replaced by energy efficient, new LED lighting fixtures. In addition, City Springs is getting a wireless access point (WAP) upgrade to 37 classrooms and other areas in the school. This upgrade is a wireless solution to ensure that students will have the necessary connectivity resources in order to facilitate uninterrupted teaching and testing situations throughout the classrooms.

Govans Elementary School welcomed a new custodial team this summer, and they are working hard to familiarize themselves with every corner of the building.

At Pimlico Elementary / Middle School, an exciting upgrade is the mural that is being created by the young women in the H.E.R. Mentoring program over the summer. Working with the owner of the painting local business, Loaded Canvas, the student artists are producing a creative theme and will be painting the mural over the summer to be unveiled once school starts.

Pimlico also is in the process of developing design specifications for the proposed walking/running track and modified athletic field to be added to the school’s historic grounds. These facilities will add numerous athletic and extracurricular opportunities for students and serve to deepen the Pimlico community spirit. Crews at Pimlico also are  busy painting classrooms and resurfacing bathroom floors.

At Wolfe Street Academy, the school is being re-roofed as part of the Baltimore City Public Schools’ district capital project, and the boys and girls first-floor bathrooms are being resurfaced.

Thank you, Blaine Lipski, BCP Director of Facilities, for ably handling each of the summer projects.
