BCP Peer Mediators Attend Citywide Peer Mediator Summit

Peer Mediators at Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) schools are vital leaders who help to shape the positive, respectful community and culture at the heart of each school. Trained by BCP administrators and teachers to lead mediations between peers, these 3rd through 8th-grade students handle

On March 24, 2026, for the third year in a row, BCP Peer Mediators from each BCP school joined peers from other Baltimore City Public Schools for the annual Peer Mediator Summit. Co-hosted by BCP and the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, the event included about 100 students from BCP schools, City Springs Elementary/MIddle School, Frederick Elementary School, Hampstead Hill Academy, and Pimlico Elementary/Middle School. Beechfield Elementary School also joined BCP schools for the event.

Peer Mediators enjoyed the keynote address from an expert panel:

The students spent the rest of the morning enjoying five different workshops to hone their skills at community building and peaceful resolution.

  • Baltimore Improv Group (BIG) and Emily Iannuzzelli, an improviser with BIG, led a session on the use of improv for deeper listening
  • Nyjah Rollins from KIPP DC guided a session on Social-Emotional Learning skills
  • Trained mediators and law students helped the Peer Mediators role play possible mediation scenarios and challenges
  • And other adults then helped Peer Mediators debrief and reflect during lunch

Todd Wade, Director of Restorative Practices and Peer Mediation Coordinator at City Springs, helped to plan the summit and coordinates BCP’s network-wide Peer Mediation program, was very pleased with the day.

Our partnership with the Carey School of Law continues to deepen our students’ skills and dedication to be effective, empathetic Peer Mediators and school leaders. Students look forward to the Summit and working with each other and the law school students and leadership. It’s an amazing day that truly inspires their daily work across our BCP schools.

City Springs student Deyonna Thompson loved the Summit: “I loved hanging out with the Pimlico 7th graders. I hope we can go on a field trip to their school to practice role plays.”
