BCP Schools Recognized at Baltimore City’s 2026-27 School Year Kickoff

The 2026–27 school year officially got underway for Baltimore City school leaders on August 13, as principals from across Baltimore gathered at Port Discovery Children’s Museum for a kickoff event with the new Baltimore City Public Schools CEO, Dr. Jermaine Dawson.

While reflecting on progress made over the past year and looking ahead to the new year, Dr. Dawson shared his vision and recognized several schools for their academic progress and improvement. Three Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) were among those lauded at the event:

Hampstead Hill Academy received several recognitions for its strong academic performance:

Outpacing the state average in MCAP Algebra 1, MCAP Math for grades 6-8, MCAP ELA for grades 6-8, and MCAP Science for 8th grade

Recognized as one of the Top 5 most improved district schools in MCAP Math for grades 6-8.

City Springs Elementary/Middle School was recognized as a: Top 5 most improved district school in 8th grade MCAP Science, highlighting the significant progress students have made.

Dr. Rhonda Richetta, Principal, was recognized as the most veteran school leader in Baltimore City. Her recognition is a testament to her years of dedicated leadership and commitment to students, families, and the City Springs community.

Govans Elementary School was recognized as: Most improved school in ELA for Community Learning Network (CLN) 10, celebrating the growth students and staff have achieved.

Laura Doherty, BCP President and CEO, remarked, “These recognitions are a reflection of the hard work of our teachers, school leaders, students, and families and the commitment across BCP schools to using data, strong instruction, and collaboration to help every student grow.”

She added, “We are proud of our schools and grateful to Dr. Dawson and our educational partner, City Schools, for recognizing the work happening across our BCP community.”
