Tajma Burnside, a proud graduate of City Springs Elementary/Middle School, is a shining example of what it means to be a BCP scholar, leader, and changemaker.

BCP School Experience

She attended City Springs from K–8 (2009–2018) where she grew up as part of the school community, building strong relationships with teachers and peers while developing the confidence, work ethic, and sense of purpose that continue to guide her journey today.

The Next Charter: High School

Baltimore Polytechnic High School, Class of 2022

Tajma continued her academic journey in high school, where she further developed her interests, built new strengths, and continued to grow as a student and leader. Her high school experience helped prepare her for the challenges of post-secondary education and beyond.

Where They Are Now

Community College of Baltimore County

Tajma is currently attending the Community College of Baltimore County, where she is pursuing a degree in Nursing. Her career goal is to become a labor and delivery nurse, where she hopes to support and care for mothers and newborns during one of life’s most important moments.

 

Q: How did attending a BCP school prepare you for high school and college?  

“The teachers and staff definitely prepared me for high school by always pushing me to do more and motivating me when I felt like giving up. There was a time during my senior year when I didn’t know what I wanted to do for the future, and they led me on the right path. I always know I can count on my City Springs family because not only did they watch me grow up, they always have my best interest at heart.”

Q: What is your favorite City Springs experience? 

“My favorite experience was raising money for the victims of Hurricane Harvey and having the opportunity to fly to California to be on the Ellen Show alongside Mr. O [Wyatt Oroke, Maryland Teacher of the Year in 2020-21.] I also really enjoyed my time at Middle Grades Partnership because I met some people who I still have relationships with to this day and I can’t imagine my life having not known them.”
