Our Community Coordinators at each BCP school organized robust back-to-school events to support our students and families and ensure that every student is ready and excited for a great year ahead.
City Springs Elementary / Middle School

Hosted a Back-To-School Bash on August 17th with numerous community organizations providing services and information for City Springs families, including:
- Asthma CHAMPS
- Mayor’s Office for Children & Family Success
- Turnaround Tuesday
- Elev8
- Charm City Mixed Martial Arts
- Free haircuts by Waaah Lifestyle Brand with barber Keith Dawson
- Free braiding by Hair by Keyoni, founded by City Springs alumna Keyoni West.
- Joshua Carroll Foundation, founded by City Springs alumnus and professional Boxer Lorenzo “Truck” Simpson. The Foundation focuses on helping children affected by violence. Read about Truck’s journey from City Springs.
At the event, City Springs families enjoyed games on the Purple Field, a DJ, canvas and face painting, free barbers and braiding, box lunches and Kona Ice, and give-aways with backpacks/school supplies, personal care packages from Hilton Hotels, and toothbrushes.

Hosted a Peek-at-Your-Seat event on August 23rd for students and families to meet teachers and staff and check out their classroom. Numerous community organizations provided services and information for City Springs families, including:
- Leslie Leaping Learners
- Goodnews Club
- DeWees Rec Center
- Blue Tie Transportation
- Church to the Redeemer

- Govans’ after school clubs, Dragons After Dismissal and Govie Club
- The “Govans Salon” with free haircuts and braiding
- Free uniforms
- Backpacks, school supplies from Church of the Redeemer
- Parent tech support for the coming year
During the school year, as a community school – all BCP schools follow the community school model to offer wrap-around services for families – Govans provides several services:
- Back to School Night that includes housing and after care resources
- Math and Literacy Nights to support family-focused learning
- Thanksgiving food bags and holiday gifts through Baltimore Family Alliance and the Adopt-A-Family program
- Hearing and vision screenings through the Maryland Health Department
- Literacy interventions and tutoring by Loyola University of Maryland, Notre Dame University of Maryland, and Towson University
- Cooking and nutrition classes, food access/family food kits, and financial literacy through Be a Chef for a Day, Jr.
- Weekend food bags throughout the year
Hampstead Hill Academy

Hosted a Meet Your Teacher open house with free giveaways on August 23rd with the Orioles Bird and Poe, the Baltimore Ravens mascot. This year, for the first time, the HHA Parent-Teacher Organizations covered all school supplies for every child.
Pimlico Elementary / Middle School

Community Partner: Park Heights Renaissance
Hosted a Back to School Jam on August 22nd with games, a DJ, community partner resources tables, and give-aways with at least 300 book bags and school supplies. Students and families met teachers and bought uniforms.

Wolfe Street Academy

Hosted a New Families to Wolfe Orientation on August 21st and a Meet Your Teacher event on August 23rd.
Once the school year began, WSA launched its Morning Meetings, a community gathering event that is unique to WSA. This daily, bilingual (English and Spanish) gathering offers parents the great opportunity to hang out in the cafeteria, talk with teachers, get information on the school day, and see their kids off each morning. On the evening of September 11th, WSA hosts its Back to School Night.
