Always Part of the BCP Family: Introducing the New BCP Alumni Scholarship

One of the most rewarding parts of my work at Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) is watching our students grow. We see them when they are five years old, walking through the school doors for the first time. We watch them learn to read, discover new interests, make friends, find their voices, and overcome challenges. We celebrate their accomplishments, cheer them on at performances and sporting events, and watch with pride as they become increasingly confident and independent.
And then, eventually, they leave us.
They move on to middle or high school and begin a new chapter. They meet new teachers, make new friends, discover new passions, and start thinking seriously about what comes next. But our connection to them never fades.
That belief is at the heart of a new initiative we are incredibly excited to launch this year: the BCP Alumni Scholarship.
BCP Alumni Scholarship: Investing in Our Graduates and Their Futures
Beginning this year, BCP will award up to three $2,500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are alumni of one of our six BCP schools.
We want to help our graduates take their next step. Whether that step means attending a four-year college, community college, trade or technical program, entering an apprenticeship, beginning a career pathway, or serving in the military, the scholarship is meant to spark possibilities.
For some students, $2,500 may help cover tuition or fees. For another, it might pay for books, a laptop, housing, or the cost of a certification program. Whatever the need, our hope is that this scholarship provides a little additional support at an important moment in a young person’s life.
But this scholarship is about more than the money. It is about telling our alumni that we believe in them and in what they are capable of accomplishing.
For more than 30 years, BCP’s mission has been to provide students with a foundation for success. We work every day to build strong readers and mathematicians, problem-solvers, leaders, and engaged members of their communities. We want our graduates to leave us believing that they have the skills and determination to pursue their goals.
The BCP Alumni Scholarship is one more way for us to reinforce that message.
We Want to Hear Their Stories
The scholarship will recognize students who can reflect on their BCP experience and explain how it helped shape the person they have become and the future they hope to create.
We want to hear about:
- The teacher who made a student believe in themselves
- The class they still remember years later
- The friend who helped them through a difficult time
- The school activity that sparked a passion
- The lesson that changed the way they approached a challenge.
We also want to hear about the young people they have become since leaving our schools: their leadership, community service, extracurricular activities, accomplishments, challenges, and goals.
We want to know how their BCP education prepared them for high school and helped them discover what they want to do next. Every BCP alumnus has a story, and we want to celebrate those stories.
How the BCP Alumni Scholarship Works
When the BCP Board of Directors, decided to launch this scholarship, we knew that we did not want it to be a one-year initiative. Therefore, we will actively raise money to create a sustainable scholarship fund so that future BCP graduates can benefit from this opportunity as well. In addition to soliciting individual donations, BCP will use the proceeds from our annual Are You Smarter Than a BCP Student fundraiser toward the BCP Alumni Scholarship fund.
Our ultimate goal is to establish an endowment. With the annual investment earnings from that endowment, we hope to provide ongoing funding for the BCP Alumni Scholarship year after year and expansion of the number of scholarships provided each year.

Apply for the BCP Alumni Scholarship:
- Open to current high school seniors who attended a BCP elementary or middle school for at least three years, including the final grade offered at that school.
- Applications will open October 1, 2026
- Deadline to apply: March 15, 2027
- Recipients will be announced by April 30 and celebrated in May.
The BCP Alumni Scholarship is our commitment to continuing to invest in our students. I cannot wait to meet our first scholarship recipients, hear their stories, and watch where their journeys take them.
