August at Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) is exciting as our network of six neighborhood conversion charter schools get ready for the 2023-24 school year. With a focus on supporting all students, their families, and the needs of the neighborhoods, our schools have created a full calendar of events to welcome everyone back to school.

City Springs Elementary / Middle School

The August 19th Back to School Bash brought the City Springs community together for great food, music and fun while making sure students have all the supplies they need for learning. The program included teacher meet and greets, information about the school, PTO signup, bookbags, school shirts and other giveaways, and more. Students received fresh haircuts and styles from Braiders and Barbers. Other community partners in attendance included: Volo Sport, the Baltimore Oriole bird, and Center for Urban Families.

Frederick Elementary School

On August 26, Frederick held a well-attended Back to School Event with lots of resources to ensure a great welcome to the new school year and lots of fun. Set up as a community festival with music, games, and food (yum, funnel cake!), tables included FES information, parent volunteer sign-ups, school supplies and bookbag giveaways, free haircuts by barbers in training and licensed barbers, and a nail salon.

The event also included several Frederick community partners chosen to enhance back-to-school success and transition to the classroom, many of whom offered giveaways to the FES community:

  • Young Successful Leaders focusing on empowering young individuals to become successful leaders in their communities.
  • Life Bridge providing immunization information at the event
  • New Tabernacle Baptist Church hosting a table on community service opportunities
  • Enoch Pratt offering information on STEM education opportunities and tactile coding tools for your children, and

Grand Canyon University presenting a variety of online academic programs for our staff, teachers and parents.

Govans Elementary School

The August 25th Peek At Your Seat Day brought students and families into the classrooms to meet teachers, find their seat, sign up for various programs enrichment and parent volunteer activities (Dragons Afterschool, the Govie Club, PTO, Good News Club), and receive various give-aways. Every new student received  a Govans uniform polo shirt, and all students who attended participated in bookbag and school supply giveaways.

Back to School Night will be held Thursday, September 21, 2023, 5-7 p.m. in Govans’ Cafetorium. Included in this informative evening will be a discussion on the school budget, how funds are allocated for use in the school, and information about Title One. Various academic teams, departments, and special committees are presenting on Govans’ mission to create an environment where every student thrives.

Hampstead Hill Academy

Hampstead Hill hosted numerous events in August to welcome its students and families:

  • Pre-K and K New Parents’ Informational Meeting,  August 11
  • Welcome New Families Party, hosted by HHA’s PTO,  August 12
  • Meet Your Teacher, August 25

The school’s PTO conducted a uniform swap on August 11 and 12.

To ease the transition to the school year for its youngest students (and their parents), HHA hosted Pre-K and K Cubby Conferences on Monday, August 28, with a modified schedule for the first week of school.

Back to School Night for all grades will be Thursday, September 14, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Pimlico Elementary / Middle School

On August 24, Pimlico hosted its popular Back to School Jam, a festival-like event for all incoming and returning students and families. Along with music and food this fun event allowed students to meet their teachers, receive free school supplies and haircuts, enjoy games, and much more.

Pimlico will host a Mobile Immunization Van, sponsored by LifeBridge, on September 6, 9 am – 1 pm and September 22, 10 am – 2 pm, with free immunizations for any student who needs them.

Wolfe Street Academy

On August 23, WSA welcomed its new families with an evening to learn the basics about the school and ask questions. The next day, all students and families enjoyed a robust Meet Your Teacher Event, designed to ease back-to-school jitters and get excited for the year ahead.

Two days before the start of school, all WSA staff enjoyed an Escape Room experience to bond and have some fun before school started on August 28th.
