The Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) Board of Directors met on March 6, 2025, at Frederick Elementary School (FES) to discuss updates on finances, school performance, and future initiatives. FES Principal Tetra Jackson reported improved student attendance at Frederick Elementary, thanks to new incentives like students with good attendance earning “bucks” that can be used at the school store.
The board reviewed the financial report, ensuring fiscal stability and discussing the ongoing renovation of Hampstead Hill Academy (HHA). Schools are currently engaged in budget collaborative meetings with Baltimore Public City Schools’ central office to submit budgets for the 2026 school year (SY26), complying with all necessary requirements.
Enrollment projections indicate that City Springs will see the largest increase due to the reopening of the Perkins Square development, while other schools are expected to exceed their projections.
The board celebrated the charter renewals approved for City Springs (five years), Frederick Elementary, and Govans Elementary (three years each). Pimlico Elementary is preparing for its renewal next year.
Most schools expect minimal staffing changes, and BCP is assisting with recruitment at college job fairs. The Marketing Committee noted increased brand awareness and improved school websites contributing to more charter applications.
The Education Committee reported positive growth in reading across all grades from the NWEA MAP assessment, while math results showed improvements in grades seven and eight but some declines in lower grades. Pimlico demonstrated significant growth in both reading and math.
Upcoming events include the ribbon-cutting for Hampstead Hill’s Newstead Gym on April 9 and the BCP fundraiser, “Are You Smarter Than a BCP Student?” on May 15 at the Baltimore Museum of Industry. The next board meeting is scheduled for June 5, 2025, at Hampstead Hill Academy.
