BCP Educators Attend 2026 NIFDI National Conference

During July 20–25, 2026, 20 teachers and school staff representing all six Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) schools traveled to Eugene, Oregon, to attend the National Institute for Direct Instruction (NIFDI) National Conference.

The annual conference brings together educators from across the country to deepen their understanding of Direct Instruction (DI) through hands-on workshops, model lessons, and collaborative learning. BCP staff explored research-based instructional strategies, effective classroom management techniques, student engagement practices, and data-driven decision-making—all designed to help students achieve strong academic outcomes.

Attendees participated in sessions tailored to a variety of grade levels and content areas, allowing them to strengthen their instructional expertise while learning alongside experienced DI practitioners. They also had the opportunity to exchange ideas with educators from schools across the United States and return with new strategies to share with colleagues during the upcoming school year.

BCP has partnered with NIFDI for three decades, making DI a cornerstone of its academic program. This ongoing commitment to professional learning ensures that teachers continue refining their practice and delivering high-quality, evidence-based instruction that helps every student succeed.

The conference also celebrated excellence in Direct Instruction through NIFDI’s Excellence in Education Awards. Among the honorees was Carli Crowner, a rising sixth-grade student at City Springs Elementary/Middle School, who received the 2026 Carnine–McRoberts Student Improvement Award.

Presented annually to students from across the country, the award recognizes exceptional academic growth through Direct Instruction and honors students who have overcome significant challenges, demonstrated consistent improvement, and achieved outstanding results with the support of dedicated educators. Carli’s recognition is a testament to her hard work, perseverance, and the commitment of her teachers and school community.

As the 2026–27 school year approaches, BCP educators are excited to bring their new learning back to classrooms, helping students build strong foundational skills and reach their full potential.
