BCP Volunteer Day of Service: City Springs House Competition
April 24, 2026
City Springs Elementary/Middle School hosted a spirited House Competition during its Volunteer Day of Service, creating a fun, high-energy experience that brought students together through teamwork, friendly competition, and school pride. This event was part of the Baltimore Curriculum Project’s 30th anniversary, with every BCP neighborhood conversion charter school hosting its own Volunteer Day of Service during the 2025-2026 school year.
City Springs house system groups students across grade levels into teams, or “houses,” to build community and school spirit. Each house represents one of the school’s eight attributes: Respectful; Disciplined; Resilient; Focused; Cooperative; Empathy; Integrity; and Pride. Throughout the year, House “teams” participate in fun monthly competitions.
On April 24, 2026, students in grades 3 through 6 took part in an exciting House Competition Field Day, held on City Springs’ Purple Field in the morning. For the event, participants showed their House pride by wearing their House shirts, adding to the sense of unity and school spirit.
This special Field Day offered students a collaborative and community-centered celebration that featured four engaging activity stations:
- Tug of War
- Bean Bag Toss (into hula hoops and crates)
- Easter Egg Spoon Relay Race
- Soccer Shot
Each activity ran in structured 10-minute intervals, including time for instructions, gameplay, and transitions. Students rotated through all stations in paired House matchups:
- Empathy vs. Respect
- Cooperation vs. Discipline
- Focus vs. Pride
- Resilience vs. Integrity
At each station, 10 students from each team competed per round while their teammates cheered them on. This format ensured that all students had an opportunity to participate, with some rotating in for additional turns as needed.
City Springs House Competition Day was more than just a series of games—it was an opportunity to build community, reinforce House values, and celebrate student effort and sportsmanship. With teamwork at the center, the event stood out as a memorable highlight of the spring season.
