BCP Volunteer Day of Service: Hampstead Hill Academy National History Day Recap
January 27, 2026
Dozens of volunteers supported Hampstead Hill Academy’s (HHA) National History Day, a powerful showcase of student learning, collaborative projects, and creativity.
This year’s event, held on January 16, 2026, marked the seventh year for HHA’s competition, with every middle school student participating. Students across 6th, 7th, and 8th grades presented 70 projects, including exhibit boards, documentaries, websites, and live performances, all centered on this year’s theme, “Revolution, Reaction, and Reform in History.”
More than 300 students have been working since September to research, refine, and prepare their projects for a regional, state, and national program. HHA’s finalists will be announced shortly and will present their projects at the Baltimore citywide National History Day competition. Winners from that move on to the state event, and possibly, the national event.
The event was organized by Middle School Academic Coach Matt Cobb, who praised the quality of student work:
The event was made possible by the support of 70 external judges, including 30 volunteers from Boys’ Latin School of Maryland, who generously shared their time and expertise to evaluate student work and provide thoughtful feedback. Their presence ensured students received meaningful recognition for their research, critical thinking, and presentation skills.
The event was part of BCP’s yearlong celebration of its 30th anniversary, which includes volunteer opportunities at each of the six BCP neighborhood conversion charter schools.
