The dozens of community organizations and nonprofits that support the work and vision of the Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) are essential partners to ensuring that BCP fulfills its promise as Maryland’s oldest and largest operator of neighborhood conversion charter schools.
Few partners understand the foundational value of having a thriving community school as the anchor for a neighborhood than Live Baltimore. This unique nonprofit champions Baltimore’s 279 unique neighborhoods and encourages and facilitates a thriving city. One of their top objectives is to seek, recruit, and retain Baltimore City residents.
Ensuring that families continue to live in the City is a critical focus. Of course, the quality of a neighborhood’s school is paramount to parents’ decisions on where to raise a family. Promoting the excellent BCP neighborhood schools such as Govans Elementary School, Hampstead Hill Academy, and Wolfe Street Academy – each located in desirable Baltimore communities – are an important part of Live Baltimore’s strategy.
Since 2005, Live Baltimore has worked to retain City residents as they expand their families through the “Way to Stay” program addressing three main factors: schools, space, and support.
Though the organization is moving away from its “Way to Stay” branding, Live Baltimore’s family retention strategy continues to be front and center.
Live Baltimore’s Family Retention Strategy
“We share resources for families with children in a few different ways with customer service appointments, “Schools 101” virtual events, guides/brochures, and are often out participating in community events,” Gelles explains. Last April, Live Baltimore hosted a Buy Back the Block event at Govans Elementary to encourage homeownership.
Showcasing Govans, Hampstead Hill, and Wolfe Street among the 18 public elementary/middle schools featured on the Schools section of the Live Baltimore website is an important part of the nonprofit’s support of BCP schools.
“We know there are many wonderful school options in the City,” she adds. These profiles feature information on the academic programs, school leadership, and other details. We’ve also worked with these featured schools on marketing efforts.
Thanks, Live Baltimore, for continuing to promote BCP schools and Baltimore’s neighborhoods.
