From Academic Coach to Assistant Principal: Pimlico’s Keith Tabor

Keith Tabor first joined Pimlico Elementary/Middle School (PEMS) in 2021 as an Opportunity Culture Multi Classroom leader for Math. He became an Academic Coach, partnering with new and veteran classroom teachers at PEMS to improve teaching skills and classroom strategies and instruction, a key role in each Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) school.

For the coming 2026-27 school year, Mr. Tabor joins the administrative team as a new Assistant Principal. He shared his words on the rewards of his educational career and his vision for his new role.

I have always wanted to have an impact on the lives of our students. Through my years of coaching teachers, student achievement was always at the center. As an Assistant Principal, I hope to continue the great work that is occurring at PEMS. I can’t wait for the new students to come in and get the school year started. One of the biggest joys I have had over the years is meeting our students in the morning and being a smiling face to make sure our students walk into a welcoming school.

Being an Academic Coach has allowed me to build a strong foundation in instructional leadership, data analysis, and relationship buildings. One of the most important things that I have learned in the last few years is that there are many different teaching strategies that are effective. I also believe in using data to drive decision making and support teachers.

Without a doubt, the people are my favorite thing about PEMS. From my first year at PEMS, I have felt a strong connection to the staff and hope to continue to build that in the years to come. Whether collaborating with teachers to improve instruction, celebrating student accomplishments, or partnering with families to support student growth, the sense of teamwork and commitment is evident throughout the building.
