The Govans Elementary School Dragon Designers have advanced to the Maryland State FIRST LEGO League Tournament for the sixth consecutive year in a row.

On February 3, 2024, at the Qualifying FIRST LEGO League Tournament, they were awarded the second place Champion’s Award, the highest award presented. The Dragons – named for Govan’s school mascot, Govie – are one of five teams to advance to the State competition on Saturday, February 24.

“The Champion’s Award celebrates a team that embodies the FIRST LEGO® League Challenge experience by fully embracing the program’s  Core Values while achieving excellence and innovation in Robot Performance, Robot Design, and the Innovation Project,” explains Amanda Porter, Education Manager for LET’S GO Boys and Girls, the Baltimore-based STEM nonprofit that provides enrichment programming at Govans and several BCP schools.
