GOVANS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, CLASS OF 2020

Attended Pre-K-5th Grade

FAVORITE ACTIVITY AT GOVANS: Serving as a mentor with Diamond Girls, Govans’ mentoring program: “I loved being part of the Diamond Girls. It really helped me a lot, especially going into an all-girls environment [Garrison Forest School]. Diamond Girls made me feel very powerful and that I could do anything. I loved talking to younger girls and helping them with anything they were going through.

CURRENTLY ATTENDING: GARRISON FOREST SCHOOL, CLASS OF 2027

  • 9th Grade Class President, Day
  • Involved in Dance and Theater
  • Attended Garrison Forest since 6th grade
  • Garrison Forest Middle School President, 2022-23

PLANS FOR GARRISON FOREST UPPER SCHOOL & COLLEGE:

I would like to be All-School President when I am a Garrison Forest senior. I want to create an all-school mentoring program to match Lower School girls with Middle School girls and Middle School girls with Upper School girls. In college, I hope to major in criminal justice and minor in performing arts.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT GOVANS?

Definitely the environment! Everyone was so great and nice, from the amazing teachers to the lifelong friends I made.

HOW DID GOVANS PREPARE YOU FOR GARRISON FOREST?

All the Govans teachers taught me beyond the curriculum. They introduced me to so many things and expanded my learning, which made all the difference when I got to Garrison for 6th grade. Ms. Fitten, who teaches Math at Govans, would teach me graphs, for example, then the next unit right away because she knew that I needed to do more and more beyond just the unit we were working on.

Congratulations, Samiya, on all you’re accomplishing!

Govans Elementary School is proud to be a partner feeder school with Bridges. Samiya is part of Bridges’ 13-year program that provides individualized academic & school placement support and summer/school year programming for students from age 9 to 23.
