Welcome, Dr. Jermaine Dawson, Incoming CEO of Baltimore City Public Schools
April 23, 2026
Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) is pleased to welcome Dr. Jermaine Dawson, the newly appointed CEO of Baltimore City Public Schools, BCP’s educational partner.
Dr. Dawson officially begins his role on July 1, 2026, succeeding Dr. Sonja Santelises, who has led City Schools for the past decade. He is already transitioning into the role, shadowing Dr. Santelises and visiting schools across the district to meet students, educators, and staff.
On April 22, BCP was honored to welcome Dr. Dawson to City Springs Elementary/Middle School, one of the first City Schools he visited. He toured classrooms, met school leadership, and observed instruction in action. His visit reflects a strong commitment to understanding the strengths of Baltimore’s schools firsthand and engaging directly with the educators and students who bring them to life each day.
From Laura Doherty, BCP President and CEO
“BCP is excited to welcome Dr. Dawson to Baltimore and looks forward to partnering with him in the years ahead. His early engagement with schools like City Springs signals a collaborative and student-centered approach that aligns closely with BCP’s mission. We are eager to continue working together to strengthen instruction, support educators, and ensure that all Baltimore City students have access to high-quality learning experiences.”
