BCP Board of Directors March Meeting Highlights

The Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) Board of Directors held its quarterly meeting on March 12, 2026, at Pimlico Elementary/Middle School, bringing together board members and staff to review key updates across the network and celebrate progress at Pimlico.
Pimlico Highlights
Principal Nneka Warren shared highlights from the school year, including an important milestone: Pimlico recently received approval for a three-year charter renewal from Baltimore City Public Schools. While the renewal included areas for continued improvement, it also reflected confidence in the school’s progress and in BCP’s continued partnership with the district. Over the past year, the school has worked to strengthen academic outcomes, support student growth, and enhance the overall school climate.
Pimlico received a grant from the Maryland Alliance of Public Charter Schools. As part of the grant requirements, Tamara Lumpkin from the Maryland Alliance of Public Charter Schools attended the meeting virtually to observe the board’s work and engagement. The grant also supports the development of a new school performance dashboard to provide the board and other stakeholders with clearer, real-time insights into areas such as enrollment, attendance, academic performance, and school climate.
Prior to the March BCP board, the BCP Education Committee offered initial review and feedback on the dashboard. With BCP board support, similar dashboards will be created for all six BCP schools.
BCP Attendance Initiative
Attendance continues to be an important focus across BCP schools. At the start of the 2025–06 school year, BCP launched an innovative initiative to combat chronic school absenteeism. Funded through the generosity of the Abell and Richman foundations, this effort, lead by BCP’s Jayla Pope, aims to decrease chronic absenteeism by at least 17% across six BCP schools, boost academic achievement, and highlight effective, scalable strategies for long-term impact across City Schools.
Recent data show encouraging improvements in attendance rates and reductions in chronic absenteeism as a result of this initiative and each school’s concentrated efforts.
BCP Updates
Several updates on were shared at the March board meeting:
- School budgets for the 2026–2027 school year and an overview of financial planning for the BCP network.
- Updates from the Marketing Committee on BCP outreach efforts, including increased engagement across social media platforms, expanded storytelling about BCP’s impact, and preparations for upcoming events such as the organization’s 30th Anniversary Are You Smarter Gala later this spring.
- Review of schools’ data from the most recent, mid-year NWEA reading and math assessments by the Education Committee to better understand student achievement and growth and identify areas of progress as well as opportunities for continued academic improvement.
