BCP September Board Meeting Recap

There is a lot to celebrate with the new 2026–2027 school year. At its September 10 meeting, the Baltimore Curriculum Project Board of Directors gathered at Wolfe Street Academy to hear updates from across BCP’s six neighborhood conversion charter schools and look ahead to another year of learning, growth, and opportunity.

Strong Starts Across BCP

Enrollment is off to an encouraging start at several BCP schools. City Springs Elementary/Middle School, Frederick Elementary School, and Pimlico Elementary/Middle School are all currently exceeding their projected enrollment, with additional enrollment activity expected throughout September at several schools.

BCP is also strengthening the support we provide to our schools. This year, we welcomed Nora Hogan, Director of Coaching and Professional Development; Andria Cole, Director of Restorative Practices; and Ted Eccleston, Lead Attendance Monitor. Together, these roles expand BCP’s ability to support instruction, school culture, and student attendance.

Celebrating Student Growth

The Board reviewed the 2026 Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) results and celebrated areas of academic growth across our schools. Many of our schools showed meaningful gains in reading, with Govans Elementary School leading the pack with a 7.8 percentage point increase. Overall, BCP schools also saw encouraging gains in math. 

These results give our schools important information as they set goals for the year ahead and prepare for Maryland’s transition to the new MSTAR assessment.

Charter Renewal

Three BCP schools—Frederick, Govans, and Wolfe Street—are preparing for School Effectiveness Reviews this year as part of their upcoming charter renewals. School teams have already begun preparing with the ongoing collection of documents needed for the review. Each school is also in the process of establishing schoolwide goals to guide its work. 

Facility Improvements

There is also plenty happening beyond the classroom. Over the summer, BCP schools completed a number of facility improvements designed to make our schools safer, more welcoming, and better places to learn.

The Board also received an update on facilities improvements completed across BCP this year, including:

• A new playground at Hampstead Hill Academy
• The completed playing field and track at Pimlico
• Continued progress towards the new City Springs campus
• Updated learning spaces at Frederick
• New shade structures at Govans, and
• Safety improvements at Wolfe Street 

These projects reflect BCP’s continued commitment to creating safe, welcoming, and supportive environments where students can learn and thrive.

Update on BCP Initiatives 

BCP continues to make attendance a priority through the Transforming Attendance Initiative. The first-year report is complete, and BCP is working to secure continued support for the initiative in 2026–2027. 

The Board also approved moving forward with a new BCP Alumni Scholarship, an exciting investment in the next chapter of our students’ journeys. Beginning in spring 2027, up to three BCP alumni graduating from high school will receive $2,500 scholarships to support their college, technical training, military, or career pathways. BCP will launch the scholarship while actively fundraising to make this opportunity sustainable for future generations of BCP alumni.
