What were your interests at HHA?

I participated in many different programs. For the musicals, the performances were annual, but the rehearsals typically ran from October to February. I mainly participated in them as I have always enjoyed singing and the musicals were essentially the only opportunity to sing at HHA. I can’t quite remember why I joined Girl Scouts, but I really enjoyed participating in the activities that we did throughout the year, including selling cookies, camping, community planting, various STEM projects, and other community service projects. I joined the LGP leadership committee as I wanted to help make decisions regarding LGP and help plan events, ensuring that they were able to come together. Builders Club was essentially a club focusing on community service and community outreach. I participated in this as I did not live near HHA, but I wanted to be able to give back to the community that had given me so many opportunities.

What was your favorite HHA memory?

Performing in the school musical, Into the Woods, in my 8th grade year as the main antagonist, the witch. Not only were a significant portion of my friends involved in the musical, giving me the opportunity to spend more time with them while doing something we were passionate about, but I was also given the opportunity to perform a solo musical number. I enjoyed learning how to adapt my tone to embody that of someone feeling strong emotions as I had never had to do that prior to that experience.

How did attending a BCP school prepare you for high school and beyond?

HHA helped me prepare for City [College] as the teachers were extremely helpful providing me with feedback and coach class, which gave me the opportunity to improve both the quality of my work and my work ethic. I used these as a foundation to build off of when I started at City, and I have only grown as a student since then.

At City, the only afterschool activity that I have participated in is choir and am the current president of the Baltimore City College Choir. I chose to continue singing as it has always been a hobby that I have enjoyed. Being a part of an ensemble such as a choir also gives way to meeting wonderful people and making friends who share a passion.

What are your plans after graduation this May from City College?

I will be attending the Honors College at the University of Maryland College Park. Although my major is undecided as of right now, I am contemplating studying mathematics or environmental science.

Congratulations, Courtney, on all that you have accomplished! Best of luck in college and beyond.
