BCP Wraps Up Volunteer Days of Service with Govans International Day
May 11, 2026
To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) wrapped up its yearlong Volunteer Days of Service program with a fun celebration of community and diversity at Govans Elementary School’s fifth annual International Day on May 2, 2026.
More than 15 volunteers joined Govans Elementary’s’ students, families, educators, and community partners through the Volunteer Days of Service program. Together, they embraced the many cultures and countries represented by the schools’ Pre-K through 5th-grade families.
“Each year, the event continues to grow and improve, bringing the entire Govans Elementary community together to celebrate the many diverse cultures represented within our school,” said Samantha Haas St. Germain, School Counselor, who organizes the annual event. “It is truly special to see families so joyfully and enthusiastically share their traditions, stories, food, and experiences with us. Their participation and generosity help make this event so meaningful!
Participants went from booth to booth, completing their “passport” as they enjoyed food, art, and information about various countries, each hosted by Govan’s families. The energetic day also included cultural dance, music, and entertainers (and of course the popular face painting).
“Our volunteers really showed up for these events throughout the school year,” said Brianna Kaufman, BCP’s Director of Operations & Development, who worked with each school to recruit volunteers. Each school created its own event to reflect the spirit and programs of its respective community.
“Volunteers have been at the heart of the BCP story since our founding, from Board Members to classroom volunteers and community partners,” she continued. “We could not have accomplished all that BCP has in 30 years without the dedication and generosity of time and talent that volunteers have given over the years. Thank you, volunteers!”
One of the objectives of this anniversary-year program was to engage new volunteers in the life and communities of the schools. While BCP serves as the umbrella organization supporting this work, the true heart of our mission lies within our schools and the students we serve every day.
